Potatoes Au Gratin

Tender thinly sliced potatoes in a shallot and thyme-infused cream sauce topped with grated gruyére and baked until golden brown.

Simple Ingredients

Place thinly sliced potatoes in an even layer in a baking dish.

Sauté thinly sliced shallots  and garlic in melted butter until softened.

Add flour to the butter and shallots and stir to combine. Continue cooking for 1 minute, stirring often.

Slowly pour in the milk whisking the whole time.

Add the salt, pepper, and fresh thyme. Allow the sauce to simmer for 1 to 2 minutes or until it slightly thickens.

Pour the cream sauce over the potatoes. Cover and bake for 1.5 hours.

Uncover and top with freshly grated gruyére cheese. Bake uncovered for another 30 minutes.

Broil for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and bubbly. Allow the potatoes to rest for 20 minutes before serving.

Serve warm and enjoy!
